King David Street souk (Jerusalem Old City)

Here's a video filmed this evening walking down the King David Street souk (Arabic: market) in Jerusalem's Old City, inside the Jaffa Gate. The video shows just a small section of this mainly Arabic market in one of the Old City's main thoroughfares. I've uploaded various other video clips of my current visit to Israel and will upload more before I return this weekend. I'll post several here but to view the rest visit www.youtube.com/calvinsmithvideos. My aim is a series of short clips offering insight into the topography, history, culture, religion and everyday life of the country. If you subscribe to the channel you'll be notified whenever new clips are uploaded.

Do you still lead tours in Israel Cal?

This is supposed to be a great book btw, don't know if you've encountered it yet: "Augustine and the Jews: A Christian Defense of Jews and Judaism" by Paula Fredricksen (2009)

I fear Calvin it is a dangerous time to be in the State of Israel for you and loved ones. Netanyahu seems to be playing the Samson card - he is risking bringing the house down on his people's heads.

Netanyahu’s history lesson hints at Israeli strike on Iran

Netanyahu's speech draws comparison between Ben-Gurion’s decision to found Israel and the decisions he is facing today to counter the Iranian nuclear threat.

Pressed in the radio interview about a military option, Barak said he was aware of fears among many Israelis that a strike against Iran could draw catastrophic retaliatory missile attacks by Tehran and its Palestinian Hamas and Lebanese Hezbollah allies.

"There is no way to prevent some damage. It will not be pleasant," Barak said. "There is no scenario for 50,000 dead, or 5,000 killed -- and if everyone stays in their homes, maybe not even 500 dead."

"maybe not even 500" ?

Hi Nev, yes I do. We're thinking of one next Autumn, a smaller group hiring several people carriers so we can do some looking around well off the beaten track.

Andrew, not sure what this comment has to do with a video on the souk. You seem to be a bit of a one-trick pony :)

I guess Noah was a 'one trick pony' too (OK he might have had two ponies) - a preacher of righteousness informing people of coming judgement for 120 years because he built a boat when it hadn't rained.

It's more dangerous where I live, in Shepherd's Bush...
